Daedong Logs Q2 Sales of 467.1 Billion Won, Sets New Quarterly Record
First-Half Sales Hit New Record
Expanding North American Dealer Competitiveness
Daedong announced on August 10 that, based on its provisional consolidated results for the first half of this year, it recorded sales of 844.8 billion won and operating profit of 47.3 billion won. This represents increases of 5.4% in sales and 0.9% in operating profit compared to the same period last year.
First-half sales surpassed the previous all-time record of 835.8 billion won set in the first half of 2023 by 1.1%, marking a new historical high. Sales in the second quarter reached 467.1 billion won, an increase of 12.7% compared to the same period last year. Operating profit was 41.2 billion won, up 64.3%. This result is approximately 2.1% higher than the previous record for quarterly sales, which was 457.3 billion won in the second quarter of 2022. The operating profit margin for the second quarter stood at 8.8%, while net profit was 21.4 billion won, a turnaround from a net loss in the first quarter.
Although the North American agricultural machinery market declined by 13% and the domestic market by 3.4% compared to the first half of last year, Daedong continued to grow sales by increasing product competitiveness by region and strengthening its distribution channels. In North America, Daedong expanded its product portfolio based on its strengths in the conventional small tractor market to include mid-to-large tractors and compact construction equipment (CCE) such as skid loaders and mini-excavators. The company is also enhancing the competitiveness of its logistics and dealer network in line with this strategy. It has secured 30 new dealers, increasing its total dealer network to 600 locations. Notably, new dealers secured over the past two years accounted for 13% of the North American subsidiary's sales in the first half of this year, demonstrating that the expansion of channels is translating into a stronger foundation for sales.
In particular, sales of the HX model, Daedong's flagship high-value-added mid-to-large tractor, and compact construction equipment in North America increased by 55% and 28%, respectively, in the first half of the year compared to last year. Daedong is expanding its presence as a comprehensive agricultural machinery and equipment brand in North America by adding mid-to-large tractors and compact construction equipment to its existing business base, which had been centered on small tractors.
Growth in the European and domestic markets also contributed. In Europe, as a result of intensified efforts focusing on mid-to-large tractors, the European subsidiary's sales in the first half reached approximately 74.1 billion won, an increase of about 31% compared to the same period last year. Market share also rose by 0.2 percentage points to 2.5%. In Korea, the launch of the AI tractor and the expansion of precision agriculture services have strengthened the competitiveness of sales and service channels. The effects of restructuring distribution channels to focus on regional distributors, which began last year, have begun to take full effect, driving the company's domestic market share into the 40% range.
The parts business, which provides recurring revenue after equipment sales, also grew. First-half sales of parts reached 56.7 billion won, up about 20% compared to the same period last year. Daedong is strengthening its recurring revenue base by expanding connection points between equipment and customers through a connected platform, thereby driving further parts and service sales.
