Official Opening in the Busanjinhae Free Economic Zone
Enhancing Resident Convenience, Emerging as an AI and Robotics Logistics Hub
An advanced automated logistics center, expected to create around 2,000 jobs, has opened in the Mieum District of Gangseo-gu, Busan. With hopes that this state-of-the-art logistics facility will boost sales channels for local agricultural products and improve delivery convenience, there is growing attention on how it may transform the regional economy.
The Busanjinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (headed by Park Seong-ho) announced on August 7 that the 'Lotte Mart Zeta Smart Center' has officially opened in the Mieum District of Gangseo-gu, Busan.
The Zeta Smart Center is an automated logistics facility with a total floor area of 39,467.55 square meters, comprising one basement level and four above-ground floors. It serves as a hub for processing and delivering Lotte Mart's online orders through an automated system.
The construction of the center was promoted in collaboration with the Busanjinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, Busan City, Gangseo-gu, Lotte Group, and Ocado Group.
The Authority granted the construction permit on September 25, 2023, and continued to provide administrative support by addressing on-site challenges that arose during the building process. With the facility granted approval for use on August 14, 2025, the foundation for the operation of the center was secured.
Throughout the construction process, the Authority also pursued local community cooperation initiatives, aiming to expand sales for local agricultural products and to create jobs in the region.
With the opening of the Zeta Smart Center, local residents are expected to benefit from improved delivery convenience. According to the Authority, the operation of the center will create approximately 2,000 jobs and support the distribution and sales expansion of local agricultural products.
Park Seong-ho, head of the Busanjinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, stated, “We are pleased that the close collaboration between the Authority, Busan City, Gangseo-gu, Lotte Group, and Ocado Group since the groundbreaking ceremony in 2023 has culminated in the successful opening of the Zeta Smart Center.”
He added, “With the opening of the center, we expect delivery convenience in residents’ daily lives to improve, and hope that the center becomes a representative model of mutual growth, fostering shared prosperity among the center, residents, and the community through job creation for around 2,000 people and the expansion of sales channels for local agricultural products.”
