Gachon University to Open Korea's First "AI Semiconductor Design Graduate School"... Recruiting New Students in October
Gachon University will open Korea's first graduate school specializing in practical semiconductor design, the "AI Semiconductor Design Graduate School," in March next year with a capacity of 30 students. The university will recruit the first cohort of master's students for the 2027 academic year from October 19 to November 2.
Gachon University explained that, as physical artificial intelligence—so-called "Physical AI"—is spreading throughout industries such as robotics, autonomous driving, IoT appliances, and smart factories, the paradigm of AI technology is rapidly shifting from large-scale learning to an inference-focused approach for real-world service implementation. In response to this industrial transformation, the university is establishing the graduate school with the aim of strengthening "market- and customer-oriented system design capabilities" and plans to focus on nurturing practical engineers specialized in AI semiconductor design.
Kim Yongseok, Distinguished Professor and the inaugural dean of the graduate school, stated, "Just as law schools produce legal professionals and medical schools produce medical professionals, Gachon University will have the 'Semiconductor Design Graduate School' to train experts in AI semiconductor design," and added, "We will produce the highest-level experts in AI semiconductor design who can be immediately effective in the semiconductor industry field."

Recruitment for the 2027 academic year's master's program will take place in three rounds. The second round of applications will be open from December 17 to December 28 at 3:00 p.m., and the third round from January 21 to January 25, 2027, until 3:00 p.m. Further details on the schedule for each phase, number of students to be recruited, and eligibility requirements will be announced later through the Gachon University AI Semiconductor Design Graduate School admissions notice.
