View original imageCJ CheilJedang has moved away from the traditional method where manufacturers develop products and then propose them to distributors. Instead, the company has established a collaborative model that incorporates data from retail sites. In particular, CJ CheilJedang analyzed sales data from convenience stores and consumer purchasing behavior to identify product categories with high growth potential. The company then co-planned product concepts, prices, and weights in cooperation with convenience store merchandisers and the field experience of distributors.
Since launching its first brand IP-based product in March, cumulative sales have reached approximately 7 million units, with total sales amounting to about KRW 15 billion to date.
The company previously launched products such as "Kim Nacho" and "Kim Popcorn," which reinterpret Bibigo seaweed as a snack, snacks that combine Dashida's umami expertise, and beverages utilizing Hetbahn's grain expertise. In addition, on August 4, CJ CheilJedang released three varieties of "Hetbahn Rice Cream," a gelato ice cream containing rice grains (white rice, black rice, and Faro brown rice).
Later this month, the company will also launch two types of "Hetbahn Rice Latte" (Cream Plain and Espresso) and "Matbam Milk Tea Latte."
Beyond convenience stores, CJ CheilJedang plans to continue introducing differentiated products tailored to the characteristics of each distribution channel — such as hypermarkets and online retailers — and to consumer purchasing trends in those channels.
CJ CheilJedang is also leveraging domestically validated brand IP-based products to target overseas markets. "Kim Nacho" and "Kim Popcorn" are currently being prepared for entry into the U.S. market, and the company is sequentially reviewing global expansion for other brand IP-based products as well.
