Residual Gas Explosion at Suncheon Plastic Factory Forces Evacuation of 52 Workers
At 5:01 p.m. on August 9, a report was filed regarding an explosion and sparks at a plastic material production factory in Haeryong-myeon, Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province.
As a result of the incident, 52 workers inside the factory evacuated. Fortunately, there were no human casualties.
Fire authorities believe that residual gas exploded during the process of oxidizing plastic debris at high temperatures, igniting the inside of a pipe.
Although sparks briefly occurred immediately after the explosion, the fire did not spread to the surrounding area, so the incident was classified as a safety accident rather than a fire.
Currently, the fire department is cooling the overheated pipes and ventilating the remaining smoke, implementing safety measures.
