The launch ceremony was attended by group leader Park Eunseon, secretary Kim Juhwan, as well as council members Ahn Chiyong, Kim Yunseon, Kim Hanul, and Lee Jeongyeol. The participating members shared the direction and annual activity plans for the research, agreeing to identify cultural policies tailored to Yongin’s characteristics and strategies to revitalize the local economy.
“Yongin-type Cultronomics” is an ongoing multi-phase research project that seeks to connect Yongin’s unique cultural assets—such as its history, natural environment, and everyday culture—with enhanced urban competitiveness and economic value.
During its first phase, the group focused on researching festival development strategies reflecting local characteristics, with the aim of strengthening the self-sustainability of the region’s culture and boosting tourism competitiveness. The second phase proposed citizen-participatory city branding and regional culture-tourism linkage programs tailored to specific districts.
This third phase of the project places emphasis on identifying actionable policies that reflect changes in the urban environment and evolving citizen needs, building on previous achievements. The group plans to analyze best practices from both Korea and abroad regarding cultural policy and local economic revitalization, and to adapt these cases to Yongin’s historical, cultural, and industrial context in order to recommend improvements to policies and systems.
In particular, the research will focus on how to utilize cultural resources to make the city attractive for future generations and how to link cultural policy with local economic revitalization and community recovery.
Group leader Park Eunseon stated, “Rather than simply copying the success stories of other regions, we must newly connect and develop the values embedded in Yongin’s history, culture, industries, and spaces. We will do our utmost to establish a policy foundation for making Yongin a sustainable city where future generations want to stay and all citizens can enjoy cultural abundance.”
