The Board of Audit and Inspection stated on August 7 that it feels not only deep regret but also a grave sense of responsibility for causing public concern over the indictment and detention of Audit Committee Member Yoo Byungho on charges of abuse of authority related to an audit of the presidential residence relocation. This is the first time in constitutional history that a sitting audit committee member has been indicted and detained.

View original imageIn a statement released on the same day, the Board of Audit and Inspection said, "Today, the Special Prosecutor's Office has indicted and detained sitting Audit Committee Member Yoo Byungho for the first time in constitutional history." The charges against Committee Member Yoo pertain to abuse of authority in obstruction of the exercise of rights, alleging that the audit of the presidential residence relocation was conducted illegally.
The Board of Audit and Inspection further stated, "We acknowledge the disappointment caused to the public regarding the institution’s operational independence, as well as the fairness, objectivity, and neutrality of our audits," and pledged to take organizational responsibility seriously.

However, the board did not provide any separate explanation or assessment of the allegations against Committee Member Yoo, stating instead it would await the judiciary's decision. The Board of Audit and Inspection added, "We will closely and humbly observe the upcoming court proceedings," and continued, "Taking this situation as an opportunity for renewed self-reflection, we will do our utmost to continue fulfilling our institutional duties as mandated by the Constitution and the law without wavering."
