YG Entertainment Q2 Operating Profit Reaches 11 Billion Won, Driven by Babymonster and Treasure
Sales reach KRW 127.7 billion, up 27.2% year-on-year
Bigbang marks 20th anniversary tour, new group to debut in September
On August 7, YG Entertainment announced in a public filing that its consolidated sales for the second quarter of this year reached 127.7 billion won, with operating profit at 11 billion won. Compared to the same period last year, sales increased by 27.2 percent and operating profit grew by 31.2 percent. However, net profit for the quarter fell by 32.8 percent to 7.5 billion won.
In the second quarter, the performance included results from the new albums released by BABYMONSTER and TREASURE. YG explained, "Merchandise (MD) sales linked to the album releases increased, and digital content revenue also grew."
In the first quarter, YG reported sales of 147.1 billion won and operating profit of 19.4 billion won, driven by BLACKPINK’s album and world tour, as well as an increase in merchandise and licensing sales from newer groups. BLACKPINK’s mini-album ‘DEADLINE’, released in February, sold more than 1.77 million copies in the first week according to Hanteo Chart. In the second quarter, BABYMONSTER and TREASURE led sales growth through album and related merchandise sales.
YG plans to broaden its activities in the second half of the year by expanding concerts of its established artists and debuting new groups. With BIGBANG’s major world tour set to begin in earnest and BABYMONSTER’s second world tour ongoing, a key focus will be how much concert and merchandise sales will contribute to performance in the second half of the year.
BIGBANG, celebrating their 20th anniversary, will kick off their world tour, 'XX: COSMOS,' from August 21 to 23 at Goyang Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province. This world tour, featuring G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung, marks their first such tour in nine years since ‘LAST DANCE’ in 2017. Currently, 33 performances are planned across 19 cities in North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia.
BABYMONSTER is conducting their second world tour, 'CHOOM,' starting with a concert in Seoul in June. The schedule covers five continents, including Asia, North America, Oceania, Europe, and South America. YG has announced 27 performances in 18 cities, covering stops in Asia and Oceania, with additional dates added in select regions.
