Wooree Asset Management MMF Net Assets Surpass 30 Trillion Won, Ranks First in Industry
As market volatility increases and the preference for safe assets strengthens, idle funds are shifting from risk assets to short-term financial products, resulting in Wooree Asset Management's money market fund (MMF) net assets surpassing 30 trillion won.
On August 7, Wooree Asset Management announced that, according to the financial investment association's tally dated August 5, its MMF net assets had reached 30.4255 trillion won, ranking first in the industry. Notably, 7.8827 trillion won of funds flowed in during July alone. This figure is more than 10 times the average monthly inflow (765.7 billion won) in the first half of the year.
This surge is mainly attributed to a substantial increase in institutional inflows. According to fund evaluation firm KG Zeroin, by product, 4.5491 trillion won was invested in "Wooree Great Satisfaction Corporate MMF No.1 (Government and Treasury Bonds)" and 3.2946 trillion won in "Wooree Great Satisfaction New-Type MMF No.3."
Heesub Moon, Head of Institutional Business at Wooree Asset Management, explained, "Clients who aimed for stable fund management allocated their funds to government and treasury bond-type MMFs, while those seeking slightly higher returns than government and treasury bond-type MMFs allocated their funds to new-type MMFs."
The driving force behind this massive inflow of funds in July was the rising demand for stable fund management amid increased market volatility. During July, the KOSPI index plummeted by as much as 22%, contributing to greater market uncertainty and prompting idle funds to move into MMFs. According to the financial investment association, a total of 27.872 trillion won flowed into MMF net assets across the entire asset management sector in July—a figure five times higher than the average monthly inflow (5.3257 trillion won) in the first half of the year. Of this amount, approximately 25% was captured by Wooree Asset Management in July alone.
Additionally, the fact that Wooree Asset Management's MMFs have maintained stable returns both in the short and long term is a key factor drawing in funds. The company's research-based projections on policy rate and short-term rate trajectories have proven accurate, resulting in strong performance. The five-year return for "Wooree Great Satisfaction New-Type MMF No.6" stands at 18.10%, the highest among all MMFs, with returns of 0.81% over three months, 1.59% over six months, and 3.08% over one year—all maintaining top positions. The five-year return for "Wooree Great Satisfaction Corporate MMF No.1 (Government and Treasury Bonds)" was also impressive at 15.13%, ranking as the top performer among government and treasury bond MMFs with an average net asset of over 1 trillion won in the past year. "Wooree Great Satisfaction New-Type MMF No.3" reported an outstanding five-year return of 16.55% as well.

Changon Park, MMF Team Manager at Wooree Asset Management, commented, "Recently, in addition to banks and funds, which are the main clients for MMFs, demand for short-term fund management is increasing. As funds have been channeled into high-performing MMFs, we have seen an expansion in MMF assets under management. Going forward, we will proactively respond to the needs of clients who prioritize stability and liquidity in line with the nature of short-term financial products, and continue to deliver differentiated returns through management strategies tailored to clients’ fund management objectives."
