"You Can See All My Laundry"... New Zealand Councilor Says "No Problem" After Attending Zoom Meeting from Bathroom
Mayor: "You might want to move your camera, your laundry is visible"
Jo Galler: "You can see both my laundry and me, so it's fine"
A city councilor in New Zealand experienced an unexpected incident during a video conference when laundry, presumed to be in a bathroom, was clearly visible on camera.
According to The Sun, a UK media outlet, on August 6 (local time), Jo Galler, a first-term councilor from Dunedin City in New Zealand, participated in a meeting via the video conferencing platform Zoom on August 3. During the meeting, the screen showed laundry, including underwear, in the background, which left colleagues visibly surprised.
In response, Mayor Sophie Barker remarked, "You can see laundry, so you might want to move your camera." Galler then asked, "Can you see me?" and when the mayor replied yes, he said, "Good. You see my laundry, and you see me, so it’s fine."
However, the laundry was not the only thing that appeared on the screen. While Councilor Galler was discussing local government reforms and the issue of unnecessary spending by the city council, the shadow of a person dressed in black became visible through a frosted glass door behind him.
The door in question is thought to connect to either a shower room or another room. Later, a hand was seen reaching for the door and then quickly disappearing, as the person appeared to realize they were on camera and hurriedly moved out of sight.

Meanwhile, another incident occurred during the same meeting. Before Galler logged in, another councilor was removed from the meeting for violating the order of proceedings. As a result of these events, there is now active local debate about what level of etiquette is appropriate for Zoom video conferences.
