National Security Office Holds Emergency Meeting Over North Korean Missile Launch, Urges Halt to Provocations
The National Security Office announced on August 6 that it held an emergency security situation assessment meeting in response to North Korea’s launch of a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea.
The National Security Office convened the meeting on this day, with officials from the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff in attendance, and ordered the immediate maintenance of response readiness. The office also analyzed and evaluated the impact of this launch on South Korea’s security and reviewed necessary response measures.
The office stated, "North Korea's ballistic missile launch is a provocative act that violates United Nations Security Council resolutions," and jointly urged North Korea to immediately halt such activities.

Earlier, at around 5 p.m. on the same day, the Joint Chiefs of Staff detected the launch of a short-range ballistic missile from the vicinity of Wonsan toward the East Sea. This marks North Korea’s first ballistic missile launch in 42 days and the tenth such launch this year.
