Otek Carrier Selected for Government Heating Electrification Support Project... Targeting Eco-Friendly Market with High-Efficiency Heat Pumps
On August 6, Otek Carrier announced that two of its household air-source heat pumps have been selected as eligible products for the government’s “2026 Heating Electrification Project” Phase 2 support program. With this selection, the company plans to accelerate its efforts to target the eco-friendly heating market.
The newly supported models are 14-kilowatt (kW) and 16-kilowatt (kW) class air-source heat pumps. These are high-efficiency products that provide both heating and hot water functions, and the company intends to use them as the foundation of its strategy to officially enter Korea’s heating electrification market.
With this second round of selection, the total number of government-supported models for this year has increased to 13. By company, there are six models from Samsung Electronics, three from LG Electronics, two from Otek Carrier, and two from Daesung Heat Enersys. Otek Carrier expects that by entering a market historically dominated by major corporations, competition in the household air-source heat pump sector will intensify.
The heating electrification project is a government program to replace fossil fuel boilers—such as those using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and kerosene—with high-efficiency air-source heat pumps, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions and improving energy efficiency.
The supported products are air-to-water type heat pumps with less than 20 kilowatts of capacity that offer both heating and hot water functions. To qualify, they must meet government standards for seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP), use of eco-friendly refrigerants, safety, noise, KC certification, and after-sales service systems.
Otek Carrier is building a domestic business infrastructure spanning product development, production, and supply. Based on this foundation, the company plans to increase its supply of eco-friendly heating solutions by responding to both government distribution projects and expanding private sector demand.
Industry observers predict that the household air-source heat pump market will continue to grow steadily, driven by the government’s heating electrification policy and expanding subsidy support. Accordingly, technological competition is expected to further intensify among companies such as Otek Carrier, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and Daesung Heat Enersys.
A representative from Otek Carrier stated, “Being selected as an eligible product for the government’s heating electrification project demonstrates the recognition of our heat pump and high-efficiency eco-friendly technologies. We aim to lead Korea’s heating electrification market and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by expanding our supply of high-efficiency heating solutions, leveraging the mass production system at our Gwangju plant.”
