POSCO Air Solution Becomes First in Asia to Obtain 'Aerospace and Defense Quality Management System' Certification
High-Purity Rare Gas Production for Aerospace and Defense
Essential for Launch Vehicle Propulsion Systems
POSCO Air Solution, POSCO Group's industrial gas specialist, announced on August 6 that it has become the first company in Asia to obtain the internationally recognized certification for manufacturing high-purity rare gases for the aerospace and defense sectors—'Aerospace and Defense Quality Management System (AS9100D)'—from UK-based certification body Lloyd's Register (LRQA).

The aerospace and defense quality management system certification acquired by POSCO Air Solution is a global standard based on ISO 9001, incorporating the stringent and specialized requirements unique to the aerospace and defense industries. In these sectors, where even minor quality deviations can lead to serious consequences, an advanced quality assurance system is essential. Such a system must guarantee product safety, process consistency, flawless traceability, and robust risk management, making this certification a prerequisite for entering the rare gas manufacturing industry related to aerospace and defense.
This milestone is significant not only because POSCO Air Solution is the first in Asia's rare gas manufacturing field to obtain this certification, but also because it marks a successful localization of rare gas production for the aerospace industry in South Korea. With this achievement, the company plans to shift its business portfolio—which has focused on rare gases for semiconductors and displays—into the aerospace and defense sectors as well. By establishing a stable supply base for high-purity rare gases, such as xenon and krypton, that are critical for launch vehicles, POSCO Air Solution aims to further strengthen its position as a specialized producer of next-generation rare gas resources.
