Unveils SSC Model, Breaking Away from FSC-LCC Dichotomy
Strengthening In-Flight Services and Quality on Long-Haul Routes
T’way Air is making a fresh start as "Trinity Airlines," introducing a new business model called "SSC (Selective Service Carrier)" that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of low-cost carriers (LCC) and full-service carriers (FSC). Rather than simply selling airline tickets, the company plans to evolve into an integrated travel platform that encompasses every stage of the travel experience by linking with the hospitality businesses—such as hotels and resorts—of the Sonotrinity Group.

On August 6, Trinity Airlines held the "Trinity Airlines Brand Launch & Uniform Runway" event at the Sono Felice Convention in Seoul, where it announced its new brand vision and SSC strategy. This event was the first official occasion since the company’s name change and presented the new brand identity and future service innovation direction to the public.
Seojunhyuk, Chairman of Sonotrinity Group, stated, "This is an opportunity for Sono Group, which has led Korea’s leisure industry for 47 years, to make a new promise to move closer to our customers’ lives. When we envision travel, it includes not only the excitement from the moment you leave home and the anticipation of boarding the plane, but also the experiences at the destination and even the return to daily life."
He continued, "The concept behind Trinity Airlines is taking responsibility for the entire journey, from beginning to end. Understanding the importance and responsibility that the airline industry carries, we will prioritize safety and trust above all else while building our unique identity through differentiated hospitality services exclusive to Sono Group."
SSC: A New Business Model Breaking Away from the FSC vs. LCC Dichotomy
The SSC model presented by Trinity Airlines is a new business strategy that shifts away from the binary division of FSCs and LCCs, instead focusing on the services that matter most to customers.
Sangyun Lee, CEO of Trinity Airlines, explained, "Customers don’t just look for the lowest price or the most services. Instead, they focus on the value and experience they receive for the price they pay. Depending on the route and travel purpose, we will focus on the services the customer wants while maintaining competitive and reasonable pricing."
He added, "As we expand into medium- and long-haul routes, customer expectations for service levels have also changed. The key to the SSC model is not a compromise, but offering tailored services that best fit the characteristics of each route and the purpose of the traveler."
Trinity Airlines also plans to introduce a loyalty program that leverages the Sonotrinity Group’s assets such as hotels, resorts, and membership services. The goal is to go beyond simple ticket and accommodation packages by connecting transportation and stays into a single, seamless platform.
The core of the plan is to maintain reasonable fares and maximize efficiency on short-haul routes, while enhancing both fare competitiveness and service quality on long-haul routes by providing services and amenities that customers prefer at the airport and in the cabin.
To that end, since February of this year, Trinity Airlines has opened a premium check-in counter at Incheon International Airport and will sequentially roll out airport lounge operations and expand personalized in-flight services such as in-flight entertainment (IFE), on-board internet (IFC) with Wi-Fi, and high-quality in-flight meals to meet customer expectations.
Within this year, the company will completely overhaul its in-flight meal service, focusing primarily on long-haul routes. Service routes will expand beyond current long-haul destinations to include medium-haul routes such as Jakarta and Singapore. On long-haul flights, two meals will be provided per one-way segment, while on medium-haul routes, one meal will be served.
Benefits by class will also be introduced: business class passengers will be offered new side menu options (salads, fruits, bread) and alcoholic beverages (wine, beer), while economy class meals will be enhanced with additional salads and beverages, ultimately providing a more satisfying in-flight dining experience.
"Rebranding Is Just the Beginning of Change"
The background behind the name change, from T’way Air to Trinity Airlines, was also explained.
CEO Lee noted, "This is not a denial of T’way Air’s 15-year history of growth, made possible by our customers’ support and employees’ hard work. However, as the aviation industry and customer expectations rapidly evolve, we determined it is time to go beyond price competition as an LCC to deliver new value."
Regarding the consolidation currently underway in the airline industry—such as the integration of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines and the launch of unified Jin Air—he added, "Competition based on scale will intensify, but we are committed to providing a distinct travel experience through a different approach."
He further stated, "We will make bold investments in services that customers need while maintaining our operational competitiveness. By combining Sono Group’s hospitality capabilities, member base, and leisure infrastructure, I believe we can build a travel platform distinct from those of other airlines."

The rebranding will also be carried out step by step by making the best use of existing assets, within a framework that does not undermine our financial soundness."
On new long-haul routes, he said, "We are comprehensively reviewing traffic rights and demand. The recently awarded Budapest route is being prepared for launch next year."
