Anseong City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Bora) will expand its current “four-bureau system” maintained since 2021, transitioning to a “five-bureau system” to better respond to the rapidly changing administrative environment. The city plans to establish a new “Economic and Cultural Bureau,” which will encompass the economy, culture and tourism, and advanced industries. In addition, dedicated organizations to address the climate crisis and rising welfare demands will be significantly strengthened.
On August 6, Anseong City announced that it aims to implement this organizational restructuring in January 2027.
The core of this restructuring lies in the creation of the Economic and Cultural Bureau. This bureau will bring together advanced industries, the local economy, culture and tourism, community, and forestry and gardening functions, and will oversee the cultivation of industries, job creation, and revitalization of the regional economy.
The existing Urban Economy Bureau will be renamed the “Urban Construction Bureau,” and the Housing Environment Bureau will be renamed the “Climate and Environment Bureau.” The Cultural and Arts Center will be abolished, with its functions incorporated into the main office’s Department of Culture and Tourism.
Five new divisions will be established at the city headquarters: Gender Equality and Child Division, Community Division, Gardening and Greenery Division, Land Information Division, and Climate and Energy Division. In particular, the Climate and Energy Division will integrate carbon neutrality, climate and air quality, and energy-related work, taking full charge of climate crisis response and energy transition policies.
The city will also revamp the welfare sector. The newly established Gender Equality and Child Division will unify work related to families, children, childcare, and gender equality. Within the Inclusive Society Division, three new teams will be created: Social Inclusion Team, Facilities for the Disabled Team, and Social Coordination Team. These changes are intended to address the growing diversity in welfare needs, such as support for multicultural and foreign residents, support for persons with disabilities, single-person households, and suicide prevention.
In the field of urban construction, a new Land Information Division and Regional Construction Support Team will be introduced. The Information and Communication Division in the Bureau of Administrative Safety will be renamed the “Data and Information Division” to strengthen work related to AI, big data administration, and information security. The Civil Affairs Division will add the “Immediate Civil Service Team” to expand one-stop civil services.
Following this reorganization, twenty-seven new teams will be created and six teams will be abolished. Sixteen teams will be reassigned, while the names of twenty-five teams will be changed.
The administrative system in Gongdo-eup, a town that has now grown to a population of 70,000, will also be reinforced. The grade of the town chief will be raised from the current level five to level four, and two new divisions will be added to respond to increased administrative demands.
The Public Health Center will enhance its regional health promotion functions, particularly for medically underserved areas and vulnerable groups, while the Agricultural Technology Center will bolster its capabilities in eco-friendly agriculture and prevention of livestock diseases.
Anseong City aims to complete relevant amendments to autonomous regulations within this year and launch the reorganized structure in January next year.
