Criticism of Remarks Linking Academy Integration to ‘Coup’: “National Defense Corruption”
Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, criticized President Lee Jaemyung on August 6 after the president stated that he had not closely examined the clauses in the revised Criminal Procedure Act, which includes the abolishment of supplementary investigative powers. Jang said, "I am appalled that the president, who has changed the judicial system, would boldly admit he did not even look at the legal provisions."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, Jang remarked, "If the president did not bother to read a bill that over 60% of the public opposed, it means he is either irresponsibly shirking his duties or simply uninterested in governing the country." He continued, "He may also have implicitly acknowledged that the amendment was a piece of legislation that should never have been passed."

Jang added, "As Justice Minister Jeong Seongho pointed out, the Criminal Procedure Act was amended at lightning speed—if the president did not read the bill’s text, this administration too will ultimately collapse at lightning speed."

Jang also criticized President Lee for referencing the integration of the Army, Navy, and Air Force academies in connection with the possibility of a coup at the Korea Military Academy, saying, "It is hard to believe such remarks came from a president responsible for national defense and security." He asserted, "Following the destruction of the criminal justice system, this abuse of national defense is now undermining the nation’s security as a whole."
