Gangnam District Awards Certificates of Appreciation to Apartment Security Guards for Assisting Residents During Fire Evacuation
Kim Jeongkag and Park Hancheol Knocked on Every Door to Help Residents Evacuate
On August 6, the Gangnam District Office (headed by Mayor Hyun-ki Kim) announced that it had presented certificates of appreciation on the 5th to security guards Kim Jeong-Kag and Park Hancheol at the district office, in recognition of their assistance evacuating residents during the fire at Hanyang Apartment in Apgujeong.

View original imageThe fire broke out at 10:27 a.m. on July 21 in one of the units in Hanyang Apartment, Apgujeong-dong. While on duty, the two security guards divided the apartment lines and went up and down the stairs, knocking on residents’ doors to alert them to the fire and guide them to safety. As a result of the fire, 21 residents evacuated and 3 suffered from smoke inhalation, but the blaze was extinguished after about 1 hour and 37 minutes without any serious casualties.
The award ceremony was attended by Myungchan Kim, Chairman of the Apgujeong-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee; Jinse Kim, head of the Voluntary Disaster Prevention Corps; and Jongja Kim, Chairman of the Korea Freedom Federation, along with other local organization representatives.
