Memory Chip Shortage... "Global PC Makers Begin Adopting China’s CXMT Products"
Nikkei Asia: "HP, ASUS, and Acer Install Small Quantities of CXMT DRAM"
Reports have surfaced indicating that personal computer (PC) manufacturers have started adopting products from China's Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) in response to the ongoing memory semiconductor supply shortage.
On August 5, the Japanese media outlet Nikkei Asia, citing multiple sources, reported that global PC manufacturers such as HP, Asus, and Acer had completed quality certification procedures for CXMT DRAM around the middle of this year, and have equipped certain laptop models with a small volume of these chips.
Currently, both the volume and the range of laptop models utilizing CXMT DRAM are limited, and these products are reportedly being sold only in markets outside the United States.
However, Nikkei Asia noted that PC manufacturers are proceeding cautiously with the introduction of CXMT semiconductor products, taking into consideration their relationships with the world’s top three memory semiconductor producers—Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Micron Technology of the United States.
Because the current market favors semiconductor suppliers, if PC companies were to openly use CXMT products, it could complicate future transactions with these established semiconductor suppliers.
Furthermore, CXMT is listed by the U.S. Department of Defense among companies suspected of ties to the Chinese military, which raises concerns that PC manufacturers could also be subject to U.S. sanctions as a result.
