Jang Donghyuk Criticizes Police, Says "Reward Investigations Began as Soon as Absolute Power Was Seized" Over Starbucks Raid
Criticizing the Fairness of the Starbucks Investigation
On the Abolition of Supplementary Investigation Authority:
"If Public Harm Spreads, Resistance Will Grow"
Jang Donghyuk, Leader of the People Power Party, criticized the police raid on Starbucks headquarters on the 5th, stating, "As soon as the Lee Jaemyung administration was handed absolute power, the authorities proactively launched a 'payback investigation.'
Jang, through his social media on this day, said, "They claim the investigation is based on a complaint by a civic group, but this group also filed complaints against President Lee Jaemyung and his ministers for abuse of power, coercion, obstruction of business, and violation of the Public Official Election Act," making his position clear.
He continued, "If the authorities intend to conduct a thorough investigation, shouldn't these complaints also be investigated together?" He further argued, "In the end, the police have admitted to being the administration’s lapdog and have volunteered to play the role of enforcer in this administration’s ideological vetting of the public."
On the same day, Jang also directed strong criticism at President Lee Jaemyung over the issues of dismantling the prosecution and abolishing the supplementary investigative authority.
He said, "President Lee described the dismantling of the prosecution and abolition of the supplementary investigative authority as 'justice prevailing in the end,' but I would recommend that he review the meanings of idioms. Is dismantling the prosecution truly a way to better protect the people? Is abolishing the supplementary investigative authority really a way to better resolve the grievances of victims?"
He then criticized President Lee’s statement that "if there are errors, the system will be revised swiftly," saying, "Even if the system is belatedly revised after causing incidents, the harm suffered by the public cannot be undone," and asked, "How will you take responsibility for irreparable harm to the public?"
Jang added, "Over 60% of the public opposes the abolition of the supplementary investigative authority, while only about 30% is in favor," and claimed, "If public harm spreads further, resistance from citizens will only increase."
