World’s Top International Applied Mathematics Congress to Be Held in Busan
Preparations are in full swing for Busan to host the world’s largest international academic congress in the field of industrial and applied mathematics, a core foundation for future industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and new drug development.
The Korean Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics announced on the 5th that it will officially kick off preparations for the “2031 International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM 2031)” by holding an organizing committee inauguration ceremony at the Press Center in Seoul on the 7th.

View original imageThe International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics is the most prestigious international academic event in the field, held every four years. The 2031 edition will take place at BEXCO in Busan from June 22 to 27, with approximately 5,000 researchers and industry experts from around the world expected to attend.
Participants will share foundational mathematical theories, industrial applications, and the latest research achievements that underpin future industries such as AI, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, bio, energy, and autonomous driving.
Industrial and applied mathematics is the discipline of mathematically modeling complex industrial problems and providing solutions, serving as a foundational technology for advanced industries such as AI, semiconductor design, new drug development, and digital transformation.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Youngmok Jun, President of the Korean Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (Emeritus Professor at Ajou University), and Changok Lee, Chairperson of the ICIAM 2031 Organizing Committee (Professor at KAIST), who will announce the launch of the committee, share the vision for the event, and outline the organizing plans. There will also be an expert panel discussion on “The History of ICIAM and the Significance of Hosting in Korea in 2031.”
President Jun Youngmok stated, “ICIAM 2031 will be an opportunity to showcase the research capabilities and technological innovation competitiveness of industrial and applied mathematics in Korea to the world.”
