[Weather] Another Scorching Day... Heat Wave Emergency Alert Continues in Seoul Metropolitan Area
On Wednesday, August 5, most parts of the country are under heat wave advisories, with an extreme heat wave warning issued for the Seoul metropolitan area and Jeolla regions. These regions are expected to experience extremely hot conditions. The maximum perceived temperature nationwide will rise to around 35 degrees Celsius.

View original imageThe regions where the extreme heat wave warning has been issued include ▲Seoul ▲southern and northwestern Paju, Hanam, Ansan, Gimpo, Pyeongtaek, Osan, Goyang, Anseong, Yeoju, Yongin in Gyeonggi Province ▲Ganghwa and northern Incheon ▲eastern Gwangju ▲Jangseong, Suncheon, Gwangyang, and Gokseong in South Jeolla Province ▲Jeonju in North Jeolla Province. The extreme heat wave warning is issued when the maximum perceived temperature reaches 35 degrees Celsius or higher for two or more consecutive days, and either the maximum perceived temperature is expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius or higher, or the maximum actual temperature is expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius or higher for at least one day.
In many areas, temperatures will not fall below 25 degrees Celsius overnight, leading to widespread tropical nights.
The expected daytime highs for major cities are as follows: Seoul 38°C, Incheon 38°C, Chuncheon 37°C, Gangneung 31°C, Daejeon 37°C, Cheongju 36°C, Jeonju 38°C, Gwangju 37°C, Daegu 36°C, Busan 33°C, Ulsan 33°C, and Jeju 33°C.
From the afternoon into the evening, showers are expected in areas including southwestern Incheon and Gyeonggi, the west coasts of South Chungcheong and North Jeolla, and the Jeolla region. Expected precipitation is 5-20mm for southwestern Incheon, southern Gyeonggi, and the west coast of South Chungcheong, and 5-30mm for the west coast of North Jeolla, Gwangju, and South Jeolla. Mountainous areas of Jeju Island may also receive 5-10mm of rain from the afternoon into the morning of August 6.
