Korea Meteorological Administration Issues Heatwave Emergency Warning for Seoul on August 4
As the Seoul metropolitan area is under a heatwave emergency warning, 23 people in the city alone suffered from heat-related illnesses yesterday, marking the highest number of such cases this summer.

View original imageAccording to official statistics from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on August 4, the number of people in Seoul who suffered from heat-related illnesses the previous day was 23. This surpasses the previous record for the most cases in a single day this year, which was 18, set just the day before. Since the count began on May 15, there have been a total of 209 cases of heat-related illnesses, including 2 deaths.
The Korea Meteorological Administration maintained a heatwave warning for the entire Seoul area and, starting at 11 a.m. today, upgraded it to a heatwave emergency warning. This is the first time a heatwave emergency warning has been issued for Seoul since the system was introduced on June 1.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is operating a heatwave response center with 104 teams comprising 561 personnel. The heatwave crisis alert level has been raised from "caution" to "alert." In addition, there are a total of 9,849 facilities available, including cooling shelters, heatwave shelters, emergency evacuation centers, mobile worker shelters, and heatwave mitigation facilities.
