Principal Sent Fake Wedding Invitation 4 Months Before Retirement... How Much Congratulatory Money Did He Collect?
Received Millions of Won via Bank Transfer
Referred to Prosecution on Fraud Charges
A principal of an elementary school in Gwangyang, Gwangju in South Jeolla Province, who attempted to collect congratulatory money by distributing a fake wedding invitation for his son—who was already married—to school staff shortly before his retirement, has been referred to prosecutors.
According to Yonhap News on August 4, the Gwangyang Police sent Principal A of an unnamed elementary school in Gwangyang to the prosecution without detention on charges of fraud.
In April, Principal A posted a digital wedding invitation in the school staff group chat, announcing his son’s wedding, including bank account numbers for both the groom and bride. He also asked for understanding, saying they could not invite everyone as it would be a small wedding with only family members from both sides attending.
However, when some staff members checked, there was no reservation for the date and place indicated in the invitation. It was even revealed that Principal A’s son had already married the previous year. Within and outside the school, there was criticism that Principal A, facing retirement, had tried to obtain congratulatory funds through a fake wedding.
