As the Korea Meteorological Administration issued an extreme heat warning for both Seoul and Gwangju, the KBO Secretariat decided to cancel the games at 12:45 p.m. in accordance with its detailed operational guidelines for each level of heatwave alert.

View original imageThe KBO's regulations stipulate that when an extreme heat warning is issued—triggered when the maximum perceived temperature for the day is expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius or higher, or the maximum actual temperature is forecast to be 39 degrees Celsius or higher—a decision to cancel the games may be made before 1:00 p.m. on the day of the game. The KBO also stated that if an extreme heat warning is in effect, the safety of the players and officials will be the top priority and the games will be canceled accordingly.
