Crowdfunding for “A Special Lesson Today,” an Arts Education Program Created by Gyeonggi Residents
Gyeonggi Arts Center is conducting a crowdfunding campaign for the participatory arts education project "A Special Lesson Today," which is designed for residents to select and create together, through the Gyeonggi Culture Crowdfunding platform "Culture Moa."
"A Special Lesson Today" is a special program under the Gyeonggi Arts Center's arts academy brand, "Today Lesson ARTS." This project goes beyond simply recruiting participants for classes by incorporating residents' opinions into program planning and using crowdfunding to attract participants—a new approach to arts education.
From June 23 to June 30, Gyeonggi Arts Center conducted a survey among residents to collect their preferences on desired programs and areas of interest. Based on these results, two special programs have been prepared for families and children to enjoy together.
The first program is "Talk Concert with Music: A Time to Read a Child’s Heart," to be held at Gyeonggi Arts Center Small Theater at 2 p.m. on August 22. The event will feature a lecture by Minjun Choi, a parenting education expert and operator of the YouTube channel "Son TV," along with a performance by the vocal ensemble La Classe. This talk concert aims to provide parents and children with a time for mutual empathy and communication.
Crowdfunding participants will receive tickets to the talk concert as a reward. A single ticket is 10,000 won and a pair of tickets is 15,000 won. The crowdfunding campaign runs until 5 p.m. on August 18.
The second program is the "Children’s Musical Experience Special Class," which will take place at the Gyeonggi Arts Center Academy Classroom on September 5. This experiential program is designed for children in grades 1 to 4 of elementary school, where they can learn musical songs and choreography and create a performance with their friends. The program is structured to help them build expression skills and self-confidence through hands-on singing, movement, and role-playing activities.
Participation in the Children’s Musical Experience Special Class is limited to the first 20 registrants, and crowdfunding contributors will receive access to participate as a reward. The crowdfunding campaign for this program will be open until 5 p.m. on August 31.
Through this project, Gyeonggi Arts Center plans to move away from the traditional top-down model of art education. The new model encourages residents to provide input from the program planning stage and directly choose and participate in programs they want.
