The patient was in critical condition, showing cyanosis with a bent neck and his lips and face turning blue. Kim continued CPR in rotation with her colleagues until the 119 paramedics arrived.
The patient was transferred to a hospital by the 119 paramedics and regained consciousness two days later. Thanks to the prompt and precise initial emergency care, he was discharged in good health nine days later with no aftereffects such as memory loss or movement impairment.
This story came to public attention after the patient's wife posted a lengthy letter of gratitude on the Gangseo District Office website last month. She wrote, “I cannot forget how you did everything in your power to resuscitate my husband in those critical moments where every second mattered. I will be forever grateful for your selfless spirit that saved his life.”
Kim Hyojin said, “I was simply doing what was necessary,” adding, “Thanks to the prompt cooperation of my colleagues at the Banghwa 3-dong Community Center and the 119 paramedics, we were able to complete the emergency treatment quickly.” She also stated, “Upon hearing the news that the patient was discharged safely, I felt a great sense of pride in preserving the daily life of a family.”
