Special Investigation Team of the National Police Agency Raids Women and Juvenile Affairs Division of Gwangsan Police Station over 'Jang Yunki Case'
Securing Additional Evidence and Reinforcing Charges Against Four Suspects
The National Police Agency's special investigation team, which is probing allegations of external pressure and inadequate investigation in the case of Jang Yunki (23), the 'high school girl murderer,' has conducted an additional raid on the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju.
According to the National Police Agency's "Special Investigation Team for Fact-Finding Related to the Jang Yunki Case" (special investigation team) on August 3, the team sent investigators to the Women and Juvenile Affairs Division of the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju in the morning and executed a search and seizure warrant.
This search and seizure was carried out to obtain additional materials that were not secured during the previous two raids, and to reinforce charges against four suspects, including former chief detective Superintendent A of the Gwangsan Police Station, whose arrest warrants were recently dismissed again by the court.
The special investigation team is focusing on whether Superintendent A gave any improper instructions or exerted undue influence during the process in which Jang Yunki’s murder of a high school girl and the sexual assault of a Southeast Asian part-time female coworker that occurred two days earlier were not investigated together but were instead separated and transferred independently.
So far, four people have been booked as suspects in connection with allegations of investigative negligence: the former Gwangsan Police Station chief, Superintendent A, the then head of the investigative team, and an investigative team member.
