Digital Daesung Achieves Record First-Half Results... Operating Profit Up 66%, Net Profit Up 158%
Digital Daesung (068930) achieved its highest-ever performance for the first half of the year, driven by growth in its high school education business and improved platform operational efficiency. The company is now considered to have entered a full-fledged phase of profitability improvement, recording profit growth that outpaced the increase in revenue.
On August 3, Digital Daesung announced via a regulatory filing that on a consolidated basis, it posted revenue of 138.8 billion won, operating profit of 25.3 billion won, and net profit of 27.2 billion won for the first half of this year.
This marks an all-time high for the first half, with revenue rising by 16.0% compared to the same period last year. Operating profit increased by 65.6%, and net profit surged by 158.1%, reflecting a level of profit growth that far exceeded the pace of sales growth.
The company explained that it has entered a genuine profit growth cycle, as strong quarterly results continued from the first to the second quarter.
The improvement in performance was led by steady growth in the high school division, including the university entrance online lecture platform "Daesung MyMac," as well as its boarding school "QUETTA" and medical school prep centers. The company noted that consistent results in core business units have driven overall company performance upward.
Profitability was further boosted by the operating leverage effect of the platform business. As additional sales were generated on established platform infrastructure and content assets, fixed-cost pressure lessened, resulting in a business structure where sales growth directly translated into greater operating profit.
Additionally, net profit was further enhanced by gains from the sale of the company’s stake in its Vietnamese joint venture, a transaction completed in the second quarter.
Digital Daesung expects this positive performance trend to continue in the second half of the year. Anticipating that the high school education business will enter its peak season in the third quarter, the company expects to achieve another record high, making it likely that full-year figures will mark the best annual performance since its founding.
A company official stated, "With a stable cost structure and continued growth of our core business units, profitability is improving significantly. Our main brands—including Daesung MyMac, Gangnam Daesung Boarding School, Igam, and Hanwoori—have established competitiveness in their respective fields, providing a foundation for overall performance growth."
Heeseong Kim, CEO of Digital Daesung, said, "A structural shift is taking place, with profitability improving across all business divisions at once, signaling our entry into a full-scale profit growth cycle. The current year is not the peak of growth but merely a midpoint, and we expect the profit growth trend to strengthen further in the second half, fueled by the peak season in our high school business and enhanced platform leverage effects."
