Incheon to Boost Cruise Port Competitiveness with Themed Performances at the Terminal
On August 3, the Incheon Metropolitan City Government announced that it would introduce a new “port-of-call themed performance” for international cruise tourists to bolster competitiveness as a cruise destination.
The performances will be staged at the boarding area of the Incheon Port Cruise Terminal, a secured zone, allowing visitors to experience the dynamism of contemporary Korean pop culture, such as cheerleading by university squads and K-POP dance.
Additionally, the city plans to offer a variety of shows—including magic and bubble performances, which transcend language barriers—tailored to each ship’s schedule and passenger count, providing a one-of-a-kind port-of-call experience unique to Incheon.
The themed performances already began late last month for the 85,000-ton Adora Mediterranea (capacity: 2,680 people) and the 102,000-ton Virtuoso (capacity: 3,470 people), and they are set to be rolled out in succession to cruise ships visiting Incheon during the second half of this year.
This program has been launched to enhance port-of-call satisfaction among cruise tourists and encourage return visits. The cruise industry is a high value-added tourism sector that brings in large numbers of overseas visitors at once. The port-of-call experience and satisfaction are key factors in determining whether tourists will revisit a country or city in the future.
Accordingly, Incheon plans to develop new tourism products linked to local festivals in the second half of this year, operate pop-up stores featuring regional specialties, and offer enhanced sightseeing programs, including city tours, to provide a rich array of tourism content.
