President Lee Jaemyung's approval rating for state affairs has declined for three consecutive weeks, recording the lowest level since his inauguration according to the regular survey by Realmeter. In matters related to President Lee's performance, negative evaluations have surpassed positive evaluations outside the margin of error.
According to the public opinion poll released on August 3 by Realmeter (conducted at the request of Energy Economic News from July 27 to 31, targeting 2,508 men and women aged 18 or older nationwide using the wireless telephone ARS method, with a sampling error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level and a response rate of 3.8%), the positive assessment of President Lee's job performance was 45.9%, down by 0.4 percentage points from the previous week's survey. The negative assessment rose by 1.0 percentage point from the previous week to 50.5%. As a result, the negative evaluation surpassed the positive evaluation outside the margin of error.
A Realmeter official explained, "Although there were achievements from summit diplomacy during overseas visits, the continued decline in approval ratings seems to have been driven by a combination of factors: economic instability caused by a stock market crash and the impact of leveraged ETFs; controversy over real estate tax policies and constitutional amendments for presidential reelection; legislation forcibly pushing through the abolition of the prosecution's supplementary investigative powers; and overall negative media coverage across political and economic issues."
In the party support survey (conducted at the request of Energy Economic News from July 30 to 31, targeting 1,002 men and women aged 18 or older nationwide using the wireless telephone ARS method, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level and a response rate of 3.3%), the Democratic Party of Korea's approval rating rose by 3.8 percentage points to 45.1%, while the People Power Party declined by 2.9 percentage points to 37.7%.
