The Child-Friendly Anshim Bus Stop is a safe waiting facility designed to prevent traffic accidents that may occur while children get on and off daycare and private academy shuttle buses, and to protect children and their guardians from extreme weather conditions such as heat waves, cold snaps, rain, and snow.
The interior of the bus stop is equipped with air conditioning and heating units, providing a comfortable environment regardless of the season. CCTV cameras have also been installed to boost safety management.
In March, the city conducted a demand survey targeting local apartment complexes. After comprehensively reviewing the need for installation, agreement from the resident representatives, and on-site conditions, two locations were selected for the project. With the opening at Seyoung Richel Apartment Complex (Phase 1) as a starting point, the remaining site will also be established in sequence.
This project is one of 11 initiatives under the Gyeongsangbuk-do Province "Child Paradise Childcare-Friendly Dure Village Project" and is being carried out using the Regional Extinction Response Fund.
The focus is on expanding childcare infrastructure centered on residential areas to enable children and their guardians to use school buses more safely in everyday life.
Andong Mayor Kwon Ki-chang said, "The Child-Friendly Anshim Bus Stop is a space designed to carefully look after children's safety, even during the brief moments while waiting for the school bus." He added, "Going forward, we will continue to expand practical childcare policies that provide safety for children and reassurance for parents, making Andong an even better city for raising kids."
Andong City is continually expanding hands-on childcare policies to overcome the challenges of low birth rates and regional depopulation. The establishment of these Anshim Bus Stops is expected to not only strengthen child traffic safety but also reduce parenting burdens for parents, solidifying its place as a regionally tailored childcare infrastructure.
The future of a region depends less on how many children are born and more on how safely they can be raised.
When a small waiting space that protects from heat waves and heavy rain becomes a trusted public service for parents and a safe haven for children, the city's competitiveness is also enhanced.
