In the first regional voting by party members for the selection of the Democratic Party of Korea's party leader, candidate Kim Minseok led candidate Chung Cheong-rae by a narrow margin in the Chungcheong region.

View original imageSohn Byeonghoon, head of the Democratic Party's Central Election Commission, announced the results of the regional party member vote for the Chungcheong area, held on the afternoon of August 1 for the third regular National Party Members’ Convention aimed at selecting the party leader and Supreme Council members.
The total number of eligible party members in the Chungcheong region was 163,846, of which 67,988 participated in the vote, resulting in a turnout of 41.50%. By region, Sejong recorded the highest voter turnout at 51.84%, followed by Daejeon at 44.74%, North Chungcheong at 40.45%, and South Chungcheong at 39.08%.
In the party leader election, candidate Kim Minseok received 30,632 votes (45.05%), narrowly surpassing candidate Chung Cheong-rae, who received 30,329 votes (44.61%), a difference of 303 votes. Candidate Song Young-gil received 7,027 votes (10.34%).
By region, candidate Kim Minseok ranked first in both South Chungcheong and North Chungcheong. In South Chungcheong, Kim received 12,484 votes (45.65%), ahead of Chung Cheong-rae’s 11,835 votes (43.28%). In North Chungcheong, Kim garnered 8,967 votes (47.39%) to Chung’s 7,919 votes (41.86%).
On the other hand, candidate Chung Cheong-rae was ahead in Daejeon and Sejong. In Daejeon, Chung received 8,187 votes (48.23%), surpassing Kim Minseok’s 7,249 votes (42.71%). In Sejong, Chung also led with 2,388 votes (50.28%) over Kim Minseok’s 1,932 votes (40.68%).
In the Supreme Council member election, candidate Choi Minhee received 30,384 votes (22.35%), claiming first place in the Chungcheong region. She was followed by candidate Park Sunwon with 22,721 votes (16.71%), Han Minsu with 19,222 votes (14.14%), Seo Mihwa with 18,517 votes (13.62%), Kim Yong with 17,045 votes (12.54%), Lee Seongyun with 14,838 votes (10.91%), Lim Mi-ae with 8,226 votes (6.05%), and Kim Youngho with 5,023 votes (3.70%).
