Hancom Lifecare Achieves Turnaround in Q2 Earnings as Defense Business Takes Off; Operating Profit Up 168%
Hancom Lifecare (372910) achieved a turnaround in its second-quarter earnings this year, driven by increased defense business sales and robust sales of new firefighting products. The company saw significant growth in both revenue and operating profit, thanks to the full-scale recognition of revenue from ground laser target designator (GLTD) deliveries and higher sales of high-margin products.
For the second quarter on a consolidated preliminary basis, Hancom Lifecare reported revenue of 55.1 billion won, operating profit of 7.6 billion won, and net profit of 6.8 billion won. Compared to the same period a year earlier, revenue increased by 103% and operating profit rose by 168%, marking a notable improvement in financial performance.
Profitability also improved significantly. The operating margin for the second quarter reached 13.8%. The company explained that gross margin and profitability improved largely due to process streamlining, cost structure enhancements, and the expansion of high value-added defense equipment deliveries.
Hancom Lifecare also successfully turned a profit in its cumulative results for the first half of the year. Consolidated sales for the first half reached 61 billion won, an 81% increase year-on-year. Operating profit came in at 3.8 billion won and net profit at 4.6 billion won, representing a full swing back to profit in all indicators.
This earnings improvement is attributed to simultaneous growth in both the defense and firefighting·safety businesses. In the defense segment, second-quarter results were fueled by the completion of first and second batch deliveries of ground laser target designators (GLTD) in June.
In the firefighting·safety segment, sales of existing core products such as self-contained breathing apparatus remained stable, while new high value-added products including welding fire blankets and fire response solutions for electric vehicles and batteries established a foothold in the market, contributing to increased sales and profitability.
The company expects this growth momentum to continue into the second half of the year. The next-generation gas mask, "K5," is scheduled for sequential deliveries to the military from July to October. Additional deliveries of the remaining GLTD units are also expected, which should further boost defense-related sales.
Mid- and long-term growth drivers have also been secured. Major defense projects, such as the urban area combat training business and the Korea Army Tactical Combat Training System (KTCT), will begin to be fully reflected in revenue starting next year.
The new unmanned robotics business is also being fostered as a pillar of growth. In May, Hancom Lifecare signed a domestic supply business agreement with Shark Robotics of France, the world’s top unmanned firefighting robot company. In June, at the world’s largest land defense industry exhibition ‘Eurosatory 2026’, the partnership expanded into the defense and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robotics field.
The company plans to use its domestic firefighting market coverage—over 90% sales and service network—combined with Shark Robotics’ technology to dominate the nascent unmanned firefighting robot market in Korea, and later expand into the defense sector for further business growth.
Hancom Lifecare is also strengthening its approach to overseas markets. By participating in global exhibitions and expanding overseas partnerships, the company is seeking additional contracts in the defense and safety markets in Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. The recent increase in national defense budgets, driven by geopolitical tensions in various countries, is also being viewed as a growth opportunity.
Sunyoung Kim, CEO of Hancom Lifecare, said, "The second quarter was a period of meaningful earnings rebound, propelled by the full-scale defense business deliveries and the positive impact of new firefighting products. We expect to further strengthen our growth foundation as the K5 gas mask, defense business, and unmanned firefighting robot sales all take off in the second half." He added, "We will build a sustainable growth structure by expanding our business from our stable firefighting·safety base to include defense and overseas markets."
