Kim Jungjae Elected as National Assembly Gender Equality Chair: "Will Respond Promptly to the Marginalized"
Kim Jungjae, a three-term lawmaker from the People Power Party, has been elected as Chair of the National Assembly Gender Equality and Family Committee.
The National Assembly held a plenary session this afternoon, in which Kim was elected as the chair of the Gender Equality Committee for the latter half of the 22nd National Assembly with 211 out of 247 votes in favor. Prior to the plenary session, the People Power Party nominated Kim as their candidate for committee chair during their general meeting earlier in the day.
Initially, according to party tradition, Kim was expected to serve as Chair of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee (for one year) through an agreement among three-term lawmakers. However, she lost to Yoo Euidong in an internal race. As a result, Im Ija, who had initially been nominated as the Gender Equality Committee chair candidate, withdrew her candidacy, paving the way for Kim to assume the chairmanship.
