Major local governments in North Gyeongsang Province are prioritizing on-site communication and generation-specific customized policies to revitalize the local economy and improve the quality of life for residents.
On July 27, Gyeongju City selected a total of seven cases as outstanding public officials for proactive administration in the first half of 2026 through the final screening: one in the team category and six in the individual category.

View original imageIn the team category, the prize went to the Urban Parks Division (Team leader Kim Yeonsoo, officials Kim Minho and Cho Jin-hoon), recognized for creating a large-scale urban forest that helped alleviate the urban heat island effect and reduce fine dust.
In the individual category, the award was given to official Ahn Se-jin from the Senior Welfare Division, who enhanced the perceived quality of welfare through Gyeongju City's customized voucher system.
The highest excellence awards went to official Kim Kyu-woong from Dongcheon-dong, who developed a Python-based welfare work automation program, and to official Shin Myeong-eun from the Public Relations Department, who maximized the effectiveness of city promotion through short-form content.
Excellence awards were given to Kim Sang-uk (Agricultural Technology Division) for distributing new paddy seed disinfecting technology, So Gyeo-woon (Population Policy Division) for revitalizing original downtown commerce through the establishment of a start-up model, and official Kim Jin-ryul (Waterworks Division) for introducing an automated water purification system integrated with smart relay and Google Home.
Gyeongju City plans to offer incentives to the winners, including the highest grade of performance bonuses, additional evaluation points, and reward leave.
On July 29, Byeong-sam Kim, Mayor of Yeongcheon, attended the 'Corporate Field Communication Meeting' hosted by the Yeongcheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he listened to the on-site challenges faced by local businesspeople and sought practical support measures.
About 40 participants, including corporate representatives and Son Dong-gi, Chairman of the Yeongcheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, attended the meeting, where topics such as industrial environment improvement, the outlook for the local economy, and business support policies were discussed.
Mayor Kim stated, "We will actively reflect the voices from the field in city administration to create a business-friendly environment and boost economic vitality."
The Pohang City branch of the Korea Future Farmers Association held the '2026 Capacity Building Training and Workshop' on July 30 at the La Mer Wedding Convention, with around 250 members in attendance.
The event featured awards for outstanding members, scholarships for local talent, and the donation of 70 bags of rice (10 kg each) for neighbors in need.
Pohang Mayor Park Yong-seon said, "We will spare no effort in supporting the Korea Future Farmers Association to enhance the rights and welfare of next-generation agricultural leaders and to invigorate local agriculture and rural communities."
Starting in July and running through November, the Imdang Relics Exhibition Hall in Gyeongsan will operate the generation-specific customized education program 'Connecting Apdok and Gyeongsan' in earnest.
The program offers a variety of courses that blend digital experiences with academic lectures, including 'Imagining the Apdok Kingdom through Webtoons/Minecraft' for children and youth, the summer break special 'Apdok Kingdom Prince and Princess,' and the 'Imdang Archaeology Academy' for adults.
