SK hynix Revamps Recruitment Process... Introduces Half-Day In-Depth Interviews and AI Skills Forms
New Hires Accepted from August 20
Abolishing the Conventional Self-Introduction Letter
Fast-Track for Outstanding AI Hackathon Participants in Q4
On July 30, SK hynix announced that it would significantly revamp its recruitment process to select talent equipped with “fundamental thinking skills (thought muscles)” and practical competencies required in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
SK hynix will accept applications for new hires on a rolling basis from August 20 to August 26. This recruitment follows the declaration made last month to abolish all academic requirements, so anyone can apply regardless of age or educational background. Major job categories include design, device, research and development (R&D) processes, mass production technology, and all other core functions.
The highlight of this overhaul is the introduction of the ‘half-day in-depth interview,’ moving away from short interviews that lasted about 20–30 minutes. Instead, candidates will complete comprehensive tasks and interviews over half a day. This aims to thoroughly assess applicants’ job expertise, ability to apply AI, understanding of the humanities, and logical thinking from multiple perspectives.
Previously, Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, emphasized, “In the era of AI, it will be even more important to have talent who can transcend boundaries and design new systems and societies where humans and AI coexist,” adding, “The power to identify the essence of a problem and think critically (‘thought muscles’) is crucial.”
The document screening process will also undergo a major overhaul. The existing self-introduction letter will be abolished and replaced with a new form that requires candidates to describe their 'AI utilization skills' and 'semiconductor job proficiency.' In addition, hiring information sessions, which used to be held mainly on university campuses, will be transitioned to regional recruiting at four major locations—Seoul, Cheongju, Daegu, and Gwangju—broadening the scope for career exploration.
Furthermore, in the upcoming fourth quarter, SK hynix will host an ‘AI Hackathon Contest.’ Outstanding participants will be fast-tracked, receiving an exemption from document screening and a direct opportunity to proceed to the interview stage.
