He outlined a vision to transform the corporation into a future-oriented energy platform company centered on strengthening energy security and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven innovation.
At his inauguration ceremony held at the Daegu headquarters on this day, President Hong stated, "Korea Gas Corporation is not simply an importer and supplier of natural gas, but a strategic public enterprise that supports both the industry and daily lives of our people, and bears responsibility for the nation's energy security." He added, "We will serve as the connector for the future of Korea’s energy."
He further emphasized, "The accumulated LNG value chain, nationwide supply network, and global business experience built over decades are significant national assets for Korea. By restoring financial soundness and enhancing corporate value, we will further strengthen Korea Gas Corporation’s competitiveness and solidify the foundation for future growth."
To achieve this, President Hong suggested three key management directions: ▲enhancing the status and value of Korea Gas Corporation, ▲establishing its role as a bridge energy provider, and ▲redesigning itself as an AI-based energy platform company.
First, he presented a plan to foster natural gas as a bridge energy that complements renewable energy, seeking to pursue a balanced transition that achieves both energy security and carbon neutrality.
He also pledged to redesign Korea Gas Corporation as an "AI Native Energy Company" by advancing core functions such as demand forecasting, supply chain operations, and global trading based on AI and data.
In addition, he stressed his commitment to prioritizing safety in all management activities, establishing an AI-powered safety management system, recovering financial soundness, practicing clean management, building trust with labor unions, and achieving win-win partnerships with local communities to become a public company that garners greater public trust.
From his very first day in office, he put field-oriented management into practice. After the inauguration ceremony, he visited various departments at the headquarters to greet employees and had lunch with staff from a range of ranks—including members of the labor union and new hires—to listen to voices from the field.
He then visited the central control center, checking the natural gas supply and emergency response systems amid recent geopolitical risks in the Middle East, and emphasized, "No matter the crisis, the supply of energy essential for the daily lives of our people and the nation’s industrial sites must remain uninterrupted."
He also inspected the cyber security operation center and information systems department to review the status of cyber response for national core energy infrastructure and the progress of AI transformation. At the Dongnae supply management office, he examined the operation of natural gas supply facilities and safety management systems in preparation for heat waves and heavy rainfall. He reiterated his field-oriented management resolve, stating, "Both energy security and AI innovation ultimately come to fruition at a safe site."
