Busan National University Partners with AWS and NVIDIA to Accelerate AI Talent Development
Over 100 Students Receive Mentoring from Big Tech Professionals
From AI Solutions for Ports and Shipbuilding to Generative Content Projects
Busan National University is drawing attention as it joins hands with global IT companies such as AWS, NVIDIA, and NAVER Connect Foundation to nurture the next generation of AI convergence talent equipped with skills that can be immediately applied in the industry.
As competition in artificial intelligence technology is driving transformations throughout the industrial sector, university education is also rapidly shifting from theory-based learning to developing talent with hands-on, field-ready capabilities.
On July 29, the AI Convergence Education Center Bootcamp Team at Busan National University (President Choi Jaewon) announced that it had successfully completed three specialized "Immersive Project-Based Learning (PBL)" courses as part of the Ministry of Education's "Advanced Industry Talent Bootcamp" initiative.
This program was held as a summer semester course from June 25 to July 20, with over 100 Busan National University students participating across three curricula: AWS Cloud AI PBL, NVIDIA Deep Learning PBL, and AI Sprint PBL.
In particular, this training program stood out from traditional AI education in that it was operated as an industry-academia cooperation model, with active participation from current professionals of global companies.
Experts from AWS Korea, NVIDIA, and NAVER Connect Foundation participated as mentors throughout the entire student project process—offering hands-on guidance from ideation and service planning to AI model application and cloud deployment.
Participating students formed a total of 24 teams and received one-on-one code reviews and technical feedback from professional AI engineers, experiencing first-hand the project processes that actual developers undertake.
The curriculum also included programs allowing students to directly experience the operational environments of global companies.
Students enrolled in the AWS Cloud AI and NVIDIA Deep Learning tracks visited AWS Korea to explore the latest trends in cloud and AI technologies, as well as to network with industry engineers and role-specific professionals—sharing insight on required capabilities and career directions within the industry.
Students in the AI Sprint course visited NAVER headquarters "1784" to experience the robot-friendly infrastructure and advanced service environments, gaining first-hand understanding of how AI technology is actually applied to corporate services.
The program concluded with a Demo Day (Performance Showcase), where students' achievements were validated.
Industry professionals and judges reviewed the students' outcomes through technical interviews, evaluating aspects such as technological implementation, scalability, and industry applicability.
The "Mooring Rope Breakage Prediction and Snapback Hazard Area Management System," selected as an outstanding project, attracted attention as an exemplary case in which AI technology was used to address issues in Busan's key port and shipbuilding industries.
This project was highly evaluated for combining local industrial challenges with advanced AI technology, as it predicts the breakage risk of mooring ropes securing ships at docks and manages accident risk zones.
In addition, a variety of projects utilizing generative AI technologies were showcased, including an AI agent creation tool, a large language model (LLM)-based 3D game, and personalized AI magazines—demonstrating students' abilities to leverage cutting-edge technology.
