Kojiyong, Former Sechs Kies Member, Reveals Two-Year-Old Divorce: "Announced Late for My Son's Sake"
"Parted Ways to Respect Each Other’s Paths"
Gojiyong, a businessman and former member of the group Sechs Kies, has belatedly revealed that he divorced family medicine specialist Heo Yangim two years ago.
On July 29, Gojiyong shared on his social networking service (SNS) account, "The decision to divorce was made to respect each other's paths and to take responsibility as adults. There was no specific reason."
He explained that the reason he kept news of the divorce private was to protect his son. "I wanted to make sure my son could fully accept the current situation and grow up in a stable environment," he said. "That's why we mutually agreed not to make it public until now."
He added, "I will continue to do my best as a father," and stated, "Although we are no longer together as a married couple, we remain supportive of each other and are on good terms." He also asked the public to refrain from making speculation about his family.
Jisun Hwang, CEO of his agency Mountain Movement Story, said, "The announcement came late as a means of protecting the child," adding, "We will take legal action against any unsubstantiated rumors or speculative reporting regarding the family."
Gojiyong also addressed recent rumors about his health condition. He stated, "Due to my carelessness, I temporarily suffered from some liver function impairment, but I am now much recovered. I am grateful to those who have expressed their concern and will do my best to take care of my health."
Gojiyong made his debut with Sechs Kies in 1997 and was active with songs such as "Hagwon Byeolgok," "Form Saeng Form Sa," and "Couple." After the group disbanded in 2000, he left the entertainment industry and pursued a business career. He did not participate in team activities when Sechs Kies reunited in 2016.
He married Heo Yangim in 2013, and the following year they had a son. Beginning in 2016, he appeared with his family on the KBS 2TV parenting variety program "The Return of Superman."
