Culture Ministry Holds National Tourism Strategy Working Session
Focus on Creating Tourism Zones and Developing Regional Tourism Products
Measures for inter-ministerial collaboration to revitalize local tourism were discussed.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held the "2nd National Tourism Strategy Meeting working session" on the afternoon of July 29, where they reviewed the progress of each ministry’s implementation of the cross-ministerial policy package titled "Turning Point for Tourism to Korea, Leap Forward for Local Tourism," which was announced in February.
Chaired by Kang Dongjin, Director of Tourism Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, section chiefs from twelve government ministries gathered to share progress on strategic tasks and outline future plans. In particular, the meeting focused on topics that require inter-ministerial cooperation, such as establishing "tourism zones" centered around regional gateway cities and the development and marketing of local tourism products linked to regional airports.
The National Tourism Strategy Meeting is a body established to coordinate cross-ministerial policies in the tourism sector. Since the 11th National Tourism Strategy Meeting, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been operating consultative bodies with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in the fields of aviation and transportation, cruises, and public-private cooperation in local tourism.
