Gangbuk District to Award Scholarships Totaling 122 Million Won to 79 Local Talents
Four Categories: Welfare, Merit, Academic Excellence, and Distinction
Applications Open from August 3
On July 29, Gangbuk District of Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Changsoo) announced that it will select 79 students for the 2026 Gangbuk District Scholarship and provide scholarships totaling 122.6 million won. Recipients will be selected from among high school and university students across four categories: welfare, merit, academic excellence, and distinction.
The number of recipients by category is as follows: welfare (62 students: 21 high school students, 41 university students), merit (3 students), academic excellence (3 students), and distinction (11 students). The scholarship amounts are 1 million won for welfare scholarship high school students and 2 million won for welfare scholarship university students. For merit, academic excellence, and distinction scholarship recipients, each student will receive 1 million won. However, among the distinction scholars, one university student selected through the Seoul Equal Opportunity Admissions program will receive 3.6 million won.
The application period is from August 3 until 6 p.m. on August 26. Applicants for the welfare and merit scholarships should apply at the community center of their address, while applicants for the academic excellence and distinction scholarships should apply through their current school. High-achieving students who attend schools outside of Gangbuk District must obtain a letter of recommendation from their school principal and submit it to the community center corresponding to their address.
The final selection results will be individually notified at the end of October, and the scholarships are scheduled to be awarded on November 6. For more details, visit the Gangbuk District Office website or contact the Welfare Policy Division at 02-901-6723.

District Mayor Jeong Changsoo said, "I hope these scholarships serve as a strong foundation for students to focus on their studies and pursue their dreams," and added, "We will continue to implement various educational support policies for discovering and nurturing local talent."
