SK hynix Posts Record-High Quarterly Operating Profit of 60.5426 Trillion Won in Q2
Sales Reach 79.32 Trillion Won, Surpassing 100 Trillion Won in the First Half
HBM4 Mass Production Accelerates and LTA Expansion Continues
SK hynix achieved its highest-ever quarterly results, driven by robust demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure investment.
On July 29, SK hynix announced via public disclosure that it posted sales of 79.3187 trillion won and an operating profit of 60.5426 trillion won for the second quarter of this year. Compared to the same period last year, sales increased by 257% and operating profit by 557%. Accumulated sales for the first half of the year surpassed 100 trillion won for the first time in history. However, these results fell slightly short of market consensus (sales of approximately 83 trillion won and operating profit of around 64 trillion won). During the same period, net profit came to 93.9226 trillion won, marking a 1,242.5% increase.
This performance was driven by rising prices for DRAM and NAND flash, as well as increased sales of high value-added products such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM), DRAM for AI servers, and enterprise solid state drives (eSSD). As a result of generating significant profits, SK hynix's net cash at the end of the second quarter also expanded substantially to 69.4 trillion won, greatly strengthening its financial stability.
To secure mid- to long-term supply stability, SK hynix has concluded long-term supply agreement (LTA) negotiations with more than 10 key customers, including major big tech (large information technology companies), and is continuing further discussions. The company began mass production shipments of HBM4 (6th generation) in the second quarter and plans to ramp up production in the second half of the year. SK hynix also aims to increase the supply of SOCAMM2 and 10-nanometer-class 6th generation (1c) DRAM. In the NAND sector, it will expand the share of 321-layer products to around 50% of domestic production capacity by the end of the year.
Additionally, SK hynix is expediting the production schedule for Cheongju M15X while also investing in the ability to rapidly expand production capacity following the opening of the cleanroom in its first Yongin fab in early 2027. The company will also push forward stage-by-stage with mid- to long-term investment plans—such as the recently announced advanced packaging plant P&T7, the M17 NAND production facility, and the establishment of a new semiconductor cluster—taking into account customer demand and investment efficiency.
