"Detained in His 40s After Stabbing Merchant with Weapon to Return to Prison Due to Financial Hardship"
Suspected of Stabbing and Fleeing with a Weapon
Recently Released in April for a Similar Offense
The Muju Police Station in North Jeolla Province announced on July 28 that it had detained Mr. A, a man in his 40s, on charges of attempted murder for stabbing a merchant with a weapon at a traditional market and fleeing the scene.
Mr. A is suspected of stabbing Mr. B, a merchant in his 60s, with a weapon and running away at around 12:50 p.m. on July 26 at a traditional market in Muju-eup, Muju County.
The police apprehended Mr. A at a bus terminal in Muju about two hours after the incident. It was revealed that Mr. A had left a restaurant after eating, took a weapon from there, and stabbed Mr. B, who was in the neighboring store.
Mr. A committed the crime because, after being released in April following a previous conviction for a similar offense, he was struggling financially and wanted to be incarcerated again.
Mr. B is currently reported to be in stable condition.
