Suspicion of Residence Site Change after Inspections with Kim Keon Hee
The second special prosecutor team led by Kwon Chang-young, which is investigating allegations of irregularities related to the relocation of the presidential residence, has summoned Han Hong Yoon, a member of the People Power Party, for questioning as a suspect on August 1.
On July 28, the special prosecutor's team announced, "We have notified Assemblyman Yoon to appear at 10 a.m. on August 1." The alleged charge is abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights.
Assemblyman Yoon is accused of improperly intervening in the change of presidential residence site and the selection of construction companies while serving as the head of the presidential office relocation taskforce under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration.
The special prosecutor's team is investigating the circumstances under which the location of the official residence was changed from the Army Chief of Staff's residence to the Foreign Minister's residence after Assemblyman Yoon and first lady Kim Keon Hee visited three candidate sites in April 2022.
The investigation also covers allegations that Assemblyman Yoon instructed former First Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Oh-jin to select 21gram, an interior company with ties to the First Lady, as the contractor. The team is looking into whether there were special favors involved in the process by which 21gram, a company without a comprehensive construction license, was awarded a private contract for the presidential residence's relocation and expansion works.
21gram is a company that sponsored exhibitions by Cobana Contents, previously run by the First Lady, and was in charge of office design and construction. In March, the special prosecutor's team secured related materials during a search and seizure at Assemblyman Yoon's residence and other locations.
