While basic local councils in Daegu, such as the Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Buk-gu, Dalseo-gu, and Gunwi-gun councils, are canceling overseas training trips in consideration of citizens' hardships, it was reported on July 28 that the Daegu Metropolitan Council is pushing ahead with plans for overseas training less than a month after its opening.

The Daegu Metropolitan Council is reportedly planning overseas training trips by standing committees to Asian countries, including Japan, Vietnam, and China, starting in mid-September, and has allocated a budget of 2 million to 2.5 million won per council member.
Uri Welfare Citizens' Union, a Daegu-based civic group, stated, "Overseas junkets by local councils are a clear waste of taxpayers' money that cannot be justified on any grounds," adding, "The superficial overseas trips that have been disguised as customary practice must be stopped immediately, and citizens' taxes should be directed to the pressing issues of livelihood and welfare on the verge of crisis."
