The garage currently serves as a base for waste collection and transportation partners, an environmental workers’ lounge, and a materials storage facility. Although the site is located within a densely populated residential area near Heukseok Market and university neighborhoods, residents have pointed out that the constant movement of sanitation vehicles and aging facilities are at odds with the surrounding environment.
The district plans to relocate the garage to an unused area of the Noryangjin Environmental Support Center by September this year. At the original site, a flat public parking lot with 45 spaces will be constructed and opened to the public. The environmental workers’ lounge will be relocated to a leased private building within Heukseok-dong, and a new materials storage facility will also be established there.
