The highest total passenger volume is anticipated on August 2, while the busiest days for departures and arrivals are expected to be July 25 and August 2, respectively.
Recent analysis of user patterns at Incheon Airport reveals that, for Korean nationals, demand for overseas travel tends to be concentrated during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, rather than the summer vacation period. In contrast, during July and August, there is an increase in foreign visitor arrivals to Korea, which could lead to airport congestion.
During the summer holiday period, the corporation will implement special transportation measures across all areas of airport operations, including passenger services, terminal operations, ground transportation, and safety management, in order to maintain flawless airport operations.
To reduce congestion and route confusion for arriving foreign tourists, the quarantine area in the arrivals hall of Terminal 2 has been relocated to secure additional waiting space. In addition, 99 new wayfinding signage installations were produced and installed to help arriving and transit passengers easily find their destinations.
Multilingual guidance services have also been strengthened. On the third floor of Terminal 1, four AI-powered interactive information kiosks are being piloted, supporting four spoken languages and twelve written languages. In both the departure halls of Terminals 1 and 2, autonomous guidance and self-check-in robots provide customized multilingual services.
To prevent congestion in the departure halls, the corporation, in cooperation with relevant agencies, will open major departure halls 30 minutes earlier than usual and will fully operate state-of-the-art security screening equipment (CT X-ray), with a total of 44 units (19 in Terminal 1, 25 in Terminal 2).
For even faster departure processing, the number of dedicated Smart Pass departure gates will be increased from four to five, and about 120 staff members will be deployed to enhance congestion management and provide guidance on using smart processing channels.
To improve passenger parking convenience, the corporation has reorganized the valet parking area, revised the season ticket system, and opened parking lots reserved for on-site employees, thereby adding 3,061 more passenger parking spaces in the short-term parking lot. However, the corporation explained that, as demand for parking surges during the summer peak period, congestion risk persists, and so passengers are strongly encouraged to use public transportation where possible.
To ensure that passengers using late-night flights can access airport services without difficulty, 14 late-night public transportation routes have been established, including new airport bus routes to Goyang and Paju, with a total of 85 departures per day. In addition, the number of stores operating 24 hours has been expanded to 96.
During the peak summer season, a special transportation situation room will operate 24 hours a day to enable rapid response to emergencies such as airport congestion or adverse weather.
