Kiwoom Securities Surpasses 100 Billion Won in Retirement Pension Funds Just Two Months After Launch
From Stock Clients to Retirement Pension Subscribers
"Creating a Subscriber-Centered Retirement Pension Market"
Kiwoom Securities announced on July 27 that, as of July 24—less than two months after launching its retirement pension business—the company’s accumulated funds had surpassed 100 billion won.
Kiwoom Securities explained that this achievement is significant not only as a simple increase in accumulated funds, but also because it demonstrates that the company’s established retail investor base in both domestic and overseas stock markets is expanding into the realm of long-term retirement asset management. In fact, approximately 96% of new personal retirement pension (IRP) customers are already existing Kiwoom Securities trading clients. Customers who previously used the Hero MTS platform for stock trading have naturally transitioned to utilizing its retirement pension services. A representative from Kiwoom Securities stated, “This result demonstrates the potential for Kiwoom Securities to grow into a life-long asset management platform.”
On June 1, Kiwoom Securities launched defined benefit (DB), defined contribution (DC), and IRP plans. The company waived both management and asset management fees for new subscribers during their first year, thereby reducing the initial cost burden for corporate clients and individual subscribers. Furthermore, the company plans to maintain DB plan fees at among the lowest levels in the industry, even after the waiver period ends.
Kiwoom Securities is also strengthening its online-driven differentiation strategy in the corporate DC market. Through the ‘Retirement Pension Introduction Request’ service available within the Hero MTS platform, employees can directly request their company to adopt a retirement pension plan. The company has also established a system where subsequent corporate consultation and contract procedures can be handled non-face-to-face. Traditionally, once a company chose a retirement pension provider, employees simply followed that decision. In contrast, Kiwoom Securities is seeking to reshape this convention by enabling employees to select a provider first and then request the company to implement the plan. In practice, requests for introduction from both corporate managers and employees are increasing, and there has been a steady rise in applications from companies in local regions where conventional offline sales networks have difficulty reaching.
Kiwoom Securities has replicated its proprietary mobile trading system (MTS), ‘Hero S#’, for the retirement pension environment. This enables customers to trade retirement pension ETFs in real time using an interface identical to that used for ordinary stock trading. Features from the conventional MTS—such as systematic investment and automated monitoring orders—are likewise available for use within pension accounts.
For customers with limited investment experience, the company offers an AI-powered portfolio automated management solution. This solution builds portfolios with global funds encompassing different levels of risk—such as stocks, bonds, and alternative assets—and periodically adjusts asset distribution according to market conditions.
The company is continually expanding its product lineup. At launch, Kiwoom Securities became the first retirement pension provider to offer foreign currency repurchase agreements (RPs) to both individual and corporate customers. The company also plans to sequentially release foreign currency bonds focused on creditworthy U.S. Treasuries.
Going forward, Kiwoom Securities intends to continue expanding its IRP client base and to further enhance its non-face-to-face services in the corporate DC market. Additionally, the company aims to shift retirement pension assets—which had predominantly been deposited in principal-guaranteed products—toward long-term investment assets based on performance-based products. It also plans to build a digital retirement pension ecosystem, supporting the entire process from enrollment and operation to pension receipt on a single platform through AI-powered pension management services.
Kiwoom Securities stated that, during this initial year of business, it will prioritize building a stable foundation over expanding accumulated funds. The top priority will be establishing a reliable service structure that customers can trust for the long term, rather than focusing on short-term results.

Juseong Um, CEO of Kiwoom Securities, commented, “This achievement is more meaningful than simply reaching 100 billion won in accumulated funds, as it reflects existing stock trading clients also choosing Kiwoom Securities as their long-term retirement asset management partner. Going forward, we will continue to evolve into the most trusted ‘investment-driven pension’ provider for our customers, with subscriber-focused services and a differentiated, competitive platform.”
