[PolPol News] President Lee's Approval Rating Falls to 46.3%... Down for Second Consecutive Week
Realmeter Poll Results
Democratic Party 41.3%, People Power Party 40.6%
President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating for governmental performance has declined for the second consecutive week, remaining in the 40% range. Analysts attribute the drop in approval to concerns over economic factors such as controversies surrounding real estate policy and a sharp decline in the stock market.

View original imageAccording to a poll conducted by Realmeter for Energy Economy News from July 20 to 24, targeting 2,505 eligible voters aged 18 and older nationwide, the positive assessment of President Lee’s performance stood at 46.3%. This marks a decrease of 2.1 percentage points from the previous week.
In contrast, the negative assessment rose to 49.5%, up by 1.5 percentage points compared to the previous week. The gap between positive and negative assessments was 3.2 percentage points, reflecting a close race within the margin of error (±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level). Responses indicating “don’t know” accounted for 4.2%.
Realmeter analyzed that the ongoing decline in approval throughout the week was driven by worsening public sentiment on real estate policies, including the controversy over the sale of a Bundang apartment mortgage and remarks favoring a stronger property tax, as well as policy conflict over supplementary investigative powers and negative economic developments such as the sharp drop in the stock market.
In the party support survey, the Democratic Party recorded 41.3%, while the People Power Party posted 40.6%, marking an extremely tight race within the margin of error. The Democratic Party saw a decrease of 1.8 percentage points compared to the previous week, while the People Power Party gained 0.6 percentage points.
The Rebuilding Korea Party recorded 3.3%, the Reform Party 2.2%, and the Progressive Party 1.0%, while non-affiliated respondents accounted for 9.6%.
