On the 22nd (local time), Samsung Electronics unveiled its new wearable device, 'Intelligent Eyewear,' at the 'Galaxy Unpacked 2026' event, following the earlier release of its smartwatch. Developed in collaboration with Google, this product is distinguished by its ability to extend AI experiences beyond the smartphone screen, enabling interactions as close as possible to the user's field of vision. Set for release later this year, the device is drawing significant attention for its potential to reshape a market currently dominated by Meta's AI glasses.
Samsung Electronics plans to leverage its expertise in mobile technology to ensure comfort and appeal to the market with designs tailored to various age groups. Since facial features (such as face shape and head size) vary widely, there is a need for diverse designs for AI glasses.
"Because this is an electronic device that must be stylish and meet aesthetic expectations, a great deal of invisible technology is essential," Choi explained. "Creating a product that people want to wear daily is a new challenge." He added, "To provide an option attractive enough that even people who don't wear glasses would say, 'I’d give these a try,' we have been working with partners on aspects of design and individual preferences from the early stages, when integrating custom components like batteries and sensors."

"By applying ultra-slim hinge structures, ultra-thin injection molding techniques, and lightweight materials like titanium and aluminum, as well as optimizing internal components, we have realized a thinner and lighter design," Choi said. "Because the device comes into direct contact with the face, we also developed a heat dissipation structure to prevent heat generated by the product from reaching the face, and ensured comfortable touchpoints around the forehead, cheekbones, and ears, along with balanced weight across both sides."
He also mentioned stringent quality standards, including high-temperature and high-humidity tests, human safety verification, durability tests tailored for eyewear, and more than 100 repeated sunscreen exposure tests. "Optimization has enabled us to maintain a lightweight, slim design while achieving up to nine hours of use on a single charge," he said. "There is still a long way to go, but we will overcome challenges with technology."

Choi further expressed hope that Intelligent Eyewear would become a new interface for expanding the AI experience within the Galaxy ecosystem. "We aimed to provide a natural and comfortable wearing experience while allowing users to receive meaningful assistance at the right moments, without constantly having to pull out their smartphones," he said. "Intelligent Eyewear represents a crucial first step, built on Samsung Electronics' accumulated innovative experience in the mobile sector, differentiated hardware capabilities, and expertise with connected devices."
